Hydrotherapy or Aquatic Physiotherapy is physiotherapy performed in water for the treatment of varying conditions and disease. It provides a relaxing and supportive environment and enables people with pain, post-surgery conditions, arthritis and mobility issues, to participate in physical activity and functional rehabilitation. The properties of the water and a variety of treatment techniques (including manual therapy, facilitation and exercise) are used to design specific treatments to address individual conditions/goals.

The warmth and buoyancy of a water environment can be used to:

  • Reduce pain

  • Decrease/progress weight bearing

  •  Promote muscle relaxation

  • Increase range and movement and flexibility

  • Increase strength and endurance

  • Core stability and balance reactions

  • Improve general fitness

NQPC runs a small weekly group class at Kokoda Pool in Gulliver or you can book one on one Hydrotherapy at your preferred time. The pool is heated and is fully equipped with ramp access. Prior to beginning hydrotherapy, you will be required to fill out an assessment form together with one of our physiotherapists in order to ensure appropriate treatment for your condition and to discuss individual aims.
